QUIRIMBA ARCHIPELAGO
Islands of Africa
The Quirimbas Archipelago is found in Northern Mozambique and is a chain of 32 palm fringed coral islands, stretching north to south along a largely uninhabited and undeveloped coastline. The southern half of the Archipelago falls within the Quirimbas National Park conservation area.

Five of these coral islands have small luxury private island lodges on them. These are Ibo, Medjumbe, Matemo, Quilalea and Vamizi Island. The other 27 islands remain largely uninhabited and undeveloped! These 32 islands were once part of a large East Africa barrier reef and the chain of Quirimbas islands now stretch for about 150 miles along the Northern Mozambique coastline.

The islands range from between 3 and 10 km off shore from the main land and each island is between 4 and 10km km apart. Most cruises take place inside the island chain, between the main land and islands. This makes for very comfortable sheltered cruising conditions and it is very easy to go island hopping from one island to the next along the entire length of the Archipelago!

The Quirimbas Archipelago is one of the best island hopping, fishing and diving destinations in the world blessed with white sandy beaches surrounded by a tropical Indian Ocean.
UNDEVELOPED & UNTOUCHED
Islands of Africa
The Quirimbas Archipelago is a destination that time forgot! Its many coves, beaches and coral reefs remain virtually
unknown to the outside world. Its indigenous people who inhabit the islands live a life unchanged for generations.

Make no mistake about it; the Quirimbas Archipelago is a very special place indeed. Here palm trees grow through the thick walls of 16th century castles and ancient Arabic forts. Great
iron canons still sit, pointing out to sea, guarding old harbours and the local fishermen sail hand built wooden dhows or small dugout canoes hewn from whole trees and navigate the winding channels, mangrove forests and sandy lagoons fishing and living, much as they have done for the last 1000 years.
